About Director:- Starting his career as a stage actor, Max Ophüls (born Maximillian Oppenheimer, 6 May 1902, - 26 March 1957) made his first comedy short Dann schon lieber Lebertran in 1931. Out of the films he made in Germany, his most revered work is Liebelei (1933). With Hitler’s terror looming large, he left Germany. In Hollywood, he made acclaimed films like The Exile (1947), Letter from an Unknown Woman (1948), Caught (1949), and The Reckless Moment (1949). Back in Europe, he made a few gems namely La Ronde (1950), Lola Montès (1955) and the masterpiece The Earrings of Madame de... among others. The supreme achievement of Ophüls' work is the way he explored the gulf between idealised love and the reality of passion.
